Faculty positions

The University of Maryland is well into the process of expanding its nano faculty by about 25 positions over the next few years, at both junior and senior levels. The new positions cover three colleges and their departments, often involving joint appointments in different Departments or Institutes. New nano faculty benefit from affiliation with Maryland NanoCenter in a variety of ways, from access to outstanding shared user facilities to coordination of external interactions and major proposals.

Primary appointments are made in one of the academic departments, and interested candidates are directed to the corresponding Search Committees in those departments. Given the strongly cross-disciplinary nature of nano science and engineering, the successful candidate may in fact not hold the PhD in the academic discpline of the Department. Interested candidates should not hesitate to apply to more than one department. The NanoCenter participates in nano faculty recruiting across the campus, and helps to coordinate recruiting in the various departments.

The table below provides descriptions of interest areas and links to Search Committees in the various nano departments and programs.

Ongoing Maryland Energy Research Center
The A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland is initiating a new Maryland Energy Research Center (MERC), which will bring together numerous components of research to address major issues of energy and environment. Nanotechnology will play a major role in creating materials, device, and systems approaches to these important challenges.
