The path to Atomically Precise Manufacturing Creates Products Today

John Randall
Chief Technical Officer, Zyvex Corporation

Zyvex was founded to develop and commercialize Atomically Precise Manufacturing (APM). The APM technology that Zyvex is developing, combines the control of a top down approach with the advantages of a bottom up approach that exploits the quantized nature of matter. This technology will start with the ability to create very small, atomically precise, components which will provide capabilities that are not possible with non-atomically precise structures. These products will create a market pull for more atomically precise products that will lead to a manufacturing revolution comparable to assembly line manufacturing and semiconductor manufacturing. However, the development costs of even the initial stages of APM will be significant. Zyvex Corporation's business model is to create value on the path to APM. This talk will describe three product areas: nanomanipulators, nanomaterials, and micro-assembled devices that Zyvex is currently exploiting in the near term while developing the technology and infrastructure required for Atomically Precise Manufacturing.

Biography
John Randall has over 25 years of experience in Micro- and Nano- Fabrication. He joined Zyvex in March of 2001 after 15 years at Texas Instruments where he worked in high resolution processing for integrated circuits, MEMS, and quantum effect devices. Prior to working at TI, John worked at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory on ion beam and x-ray lithography.
