Please join us for the DOE Virtual Tutorial on Advanced Imaging for Frontier Energy Sciences, a pre-meeting activity for the 2021 EFRC-Hub-CMS-CCS PI contractor’s meeting to be held October 18 - 19, 2021.

This is a two-part tutorial: an asynchronous set of videos to watch at your convenience to learn about the topics, starting now, followed by a live Zoom panel discussion on Sunday October 17, 1:00-4:00 PM (EST) which will not be recorded.

Watch any videos you like, in any order you like, but the panel discussions will be broken down as follows:

Session A - Optical and Scanned Probe Microscopy (panel: Sunday, 10/17, 1:00-2:30)

  • Super-resolution Microscopy: Overcoming the Diffraction Limit of Light – Joerg Bewersdorf, Yale
  • Introduction to Scanning Probe Microscopy – H. Kumar Wickramasinghe, UC Irvine
  • Tip-Enhanced Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging at the Angstrom Scale – Nan Jiang, UI Chicago
  • Low-Temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscopy – Phillip First, GA Tech
  • Sub-molecular Imaging of Conductive Polymers – Hsin-Zon Tsai, UC Berkeley

Session B - Electron Microscopy (panel: Sunday, 10/17, 2:30-4:00)

  • Introduction to Electron Microscopy for Materials Science – Andrew Minor, UC Berkeley
  • What Can Be Learned from Cryogenic Electron Microscopy and Tomography from Biological Samples? – Wah Chiu, Stanford
  • Electron Holography – Martha R. McCartney, Arizona State U.
  • Electron Energy-Loss Spectroscopy: The “Swiss Army Knife” of Electron Microscopy – Juan Idrobo, Oak Ridge Nat’l Lab
  • 3D and 4D Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy – Ilke Arslan, Argonne Nat’l Lab
